Single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are preferred vehicle for nano drug delivery in cancer therapy. However, the effects of SWCNTs alone in vivo situations are not well explored. Thus, the need of the hour is to find out SWCNTs induced cellular reactions within the organism using standard neurotoxicological approaches. Since military personnel are often inflicted with brain or spinal cord injury during combat operations either by gunshot, missile explosions, fall or direct blunt or sharp trauma to their CNS inducing life threatening illnesses, we have undertaken a series of investigation to study nanodrug delivery and its consequences in animal models using in vivo research. We found that SWCNTs alone induced potential neuronal injuries that is size and dose related indicating a need to find out co-administration of suitable drugs to reduce SWCNTs induced brain pathology in vivo. In this connection Cerebrolsyin, a balanced composition of several neurotrophic factors and active peptide fragments is capable to thwart SWCNTs induced Neurotoxicity in our rat models of CNS injuries. These observations are the first to suggest that co-administration of Cerebrolsyin with SWCNTs induced drug delivery is needed to enhance the neuroprotective effects of nanodrug delivery using SWCNTs as a vehicle.
