The paper describes eco-friendly / green route for large scale synthesis of nanoparticulate additives such as calcium carbonate, iron oxide, barium sulphate etc. which as used for coating applications. The synthesis is carried out using polyethylene glycol, acqueous medium and coating formulations are with low VOC. The structure and particle size were confirmed by XRD, SEM, TEM. These nanosize fillers can be easily handled and dispersed in vinyl coating formulations. The coatings applied on steel substrates were studied for corrosion resistance in saline conditions at 45 C over long durations of weeks. The electrochmical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was carried out and Tafel and Bode plots analyzed for obtaining the data on corrosion resistance. The nanoparticulate fillers were compared for the effectiveness in corrosion resistance. The trend followed was as nano-CaCO3 > nano-Fe2O3> nano-BaSO4 in vinyl coatings.
