Microfluidic chips have attracted extensive attention from both industrial and academic communities due to its virtues of miniaturization, integration, automation. Nowadays, simple and economical means of photothermal conversion on microfluidic chips are strongly desired. In this work, we describe the employment of graphene as a novel nanoscale optical heater for microfluidic chips by uniformly dispersing it in PDMS matrix. Graphene oxide (GO) was fabricated first, then the modification and reduction of GO underwent simultaneously with dodecylamine through solvothermal method in DMF. The obtaind product dodecylamine-modified reduced GO (rGO) can well dispersed in toluene and was characterized in detail. The dispersion of rGO was added into the PDMS precursor and the rGO/PDMS composite formed after heating. Microfluidic channels can readily be fabricated in usual ways out of the composite. The optical heating effects were observed under different wavelength and power of the irradiation as well as varied rGO contents. It was found that the chips with only 0.05wt% rGO contents exhibit fast and evident photothermal conversion effect.
