We have developed simple and inexpensive microfluidic cells (inner diameter: 100 _m) based on the principles of liquid core waveguide (LCW) and rapid 1, 1’-oxalyldiimidazole derivative chemiluminescence (ODI-CL) reactions. The microfluidic cells devised in this research will enable us to solve several problems (e.g, design of complicated CL reaction and detection channels, larger size than those with absorbance or fluorescence detection, high cost, limited applications) associated with previous products that have used detections based on other, less efficient, CL reactions (e.g., luminol, peroxyoxalate). Ultimately, we expect to develop a micro total analytical systems having applications in the biological, environmental, medical, and pharmaceutical research fields.
