Various nanomaterials have been developed throughout the decades, but quantum dots (QDs) have represented one of the successful new biological probes due to their optical properties coming from the semiconductor core material. CdSe QDs were synthesized in this study, but by itself are very toxic, the toxicity can be lowered by a coating or capping ligands that prevents the QDs to degrade. Some of the known and studied capping ligands is Glutathione (GHS), and polymeric materials, Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). These agents are used as coating material for stabilizing of QDs. QDs were made water soluble for it to be bio-compatible. The main objective of this research was to stabilize CdSe-GSH QDs with PVP and analyze differences in absorbance and fluorescence intensity after coating.
