This work focuses on the design of a nanoparticle containing polymer and surfactant containing that would be used in solution as a nanofluid for enhanced oil recovery. The nanoparticle is formed by crosslinking chemical reactions ; thus they have the property of not being soluble in water and can only swell in the presence of oil. Thus, when in contact with oil, the nanoparticle swelling occurs, followed by the release of the surfactant into the medium, reducing the interfacial tension of the water/oil systems (Figure 1). Cross-linked polystyrene nanoparticles (NPPS) were synthesized by emulsion polymerization of styrene and divinylbenzene in the presence of nonionic surfactant, to obtain spherical particles with diameters ranging from 130 to 400 nm.
