Here we report on our latest developments for nanoengineered encapsulation and surface design of micro and submicron crystals for biochemcial assay. Improvement has been made by decreasing the size of the organic crystals to submicrometer and encapsulating microcrystals with different polymer materials and development of better bio-conjugation strategies. Novel applications and studies on nano-microcrystals with lower unspecific binding by surface modification with blocking agents and the relationship between biomolecule surface coverage and molar ratio of signal-generating molecules to biomolecules will be discussed.
