The development of functional nanomaterials with multi-detection modalities opens up new avenues for creating multi-purpose technologies for many applications. The “ideal” nanoparticle would combine multiple detection modalities (magnetic, plasmonic, elastic or inelastic light scattering, fluorescence, storage/delivery), be stable under biological and industrial conditions, could be easily functionalized, environmentally friendly, and could be prepared in large quantities. The objective of this talk is to discuss our recent synthesis and fabrication techniques of multifunctional nanoparticles and their corresponding applications.
