Majority of the portable batteries used today in mobile applications are based on Li+- ion polymer electrolytes and Li-metal electrodes. Li+- salts/Li- metal encounter many serious inherent limitations viz. very reactive, difficult to handle in open ambience, expensive, low abundance, toxic, environment unfriendly etc. Moreover, it has been witnessed in the past that these batteries inflamed while in use. To circumvent these problems of Li+- ion polymer batteries, a need to look for alternate salt /metal electrode is being felt very strongly in recent times. In the quest to explore non-lithium polymer electrolyte for battery applications, Mg2+- ion salts/Mg-metal electrode seem to be the potential and possible alternate to Li+- ion salts/Li-metal electrode. This is primarily due to the fact that both Mg2+- ion and Li+-ion have comparable electrochemical clearaterstics that is ionic radii, electrochemical equivalence, negative electrode potential etc. are comparable. Besides, Mg2+-ion displaces twice as much charge as Li+-ion and batteries based on Mg2+ -ion polymer electrolytes do not require intercalation electrodes as in case of Li+-ion rechargeable batteries. Moreover, Mg-metal/Mg2+ -ion salts are inexpensive, abundant, intoxic, safe in use in open atmosphere etc.
