The telecommunications industry went through growing pains over the past that hold some interesting lessons for the growing distributed generation “industry.” Public policy was crafted that helped to accelerate specific applications within the telecom industry, and examination of these factors may inform best practices when approaching the legislative conduits necessary to accelerating the shifting of our nation’s energy system to cleaner forms of generation and usage. While specific legislation is not advocated, an analysis of key issues is provided.
