In this study, we synthesized graphene oxide (GO) from graphite with slight modification of literature method. We have deposited purified GO on pure sand to generate GO@sand composite. The GO@sand composite was further reduced chemically to convert GO to reduced graphene oxide (rGO), and to obtain rGO@sand composite. These two composites GO@sand and rGO@sand adsorb organic contaminant from water much more effectively than the pure sand. Dyes, toxins and, contaminants are tested to confirm viability of GO@sand and rGO@sand composites’ adsorbability with the help of UV-visible spectroscopy. We characterize GO and rGO and its composites thereof by UV-Visible and FTIR spectroscopies, energy dispersed x-ray (EDX) line analysis, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
