Effective carbon nanotube materials and design strategies for CNT-based electronics

,

Keywords: , ,

Lockheed Martin and its partners are actively involved in the development of devices using carbon nanotube materials (CNTs) for various sensor and electronics applications. The challenges f acing the effective development of this technology will be discussed. Micro devices fabricated with different types nanotube networks (different tube sources, randomly oriented tubes vs. aligned tube orientation, dense tube coverage vs. sparser coverage, material with metallic tube content vs. highly semiconducting content) are characterized for electrical and optical behavior as part of our ongoing research activities. Effects of these and other device parameters such as channel length will be discussed. Associated material characterization results will also be presented. Results of post-fabrication treatments to address deleterious metallic nanotube effects on the devices will be discussed.
