Effect of cytosol on the dynamic behaviours of microtubules

The cytosol effect on the dynamic behaviours of microtubules (MTs)is examined based on a newly developed shell-Stokes flow model. The phonon dispersion relations are predicted and the damping effect of cytosol is quantifies. Three differernt dynamic behaviours have been identified for MTs, such as udamped axisymmetric torsional vibration, damped longitudinal vibration and overdamped radial and transvers motions. The non-oscillatory transverse motion predicted for MTs in cytosol is found to be in qualitative agreement with exsiting experiment.
