The world population has increased by more than double in the past three decades and as a result the food supply required per capita has tremendously increases. However, as reported by United Nation Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) the major cereals stocks growth ratio, such as wheat, coarse grains and rice for consumption is predicted to stay almost the same. The recent emerging technologies of MEMS have contributed to numerous improvements especially to the agricultural technologies development in the world and its future is predicted to have the advantages of low-cost batch production. The paper explores the current agricultural and MEMS energy scavenging technology and the relation of both technologies and present solutions to improve agriculture field. The work presents three novel approaches in MEMS cantilever structure, which are simulated and designed to tune into available ambient vibration frequencies to harvest the required energy to power a wireless sensor node.
