Atomic layer deposition (ALD) can enhance the stability and utility of lithium ion batteries. Nanothick coatings on electrodes, electrode powders and even separator materials can significantly improve the performance of batteries, especially at high temperatures and voltages. This presentation will provide an overview of the benefits of the ALD films on the various components of the batteries as well as discuss the commercial viability of the films, including production methods and current capabilities.
