The aim of this work was to study the activity of several nanosized zinc and magnesium oxides in the crosslinking of carboxylated nitrile elastomer XNBR. The influence of the specific surface area, particle size and morphology on the crosslinking density and mechanical properties of vulcanisates was studied. Magnesium oxide nanoparticles showed higher activity in the crosslinking process and as a result vulcanisates with higher crosslink density and ionic crosslink content were achived.
