In our recent publications it was reported about intensive field emission (FE) of electrons from nano-carbon (nC) thin film material grown by non-catalytic CVD method. The low FE threshold (less than 1.5 V/mm), high density (more than 10^6 cm^-2) and distribution homogeneity of FE sites over the CVD films, and high density of emission current (more than 100 mA/cm^2) allows application of the nC films as highly efficient cold cathodes. FE effect allows produce electrons without power consumption for their excitation in contrast to usual incandescent cathodes. This advantage is crucial in application for various lighting elements including lamps and flat panel displays utilizing cathodoluminescent (CL) phosphors and having highest efficiency of electric power conversation to light in comparison with other known light sources. The state of the art of our research results will be presented in this report.
