Manganese doped zinc oxide nanoparticles (NPs), MnxZn1-xO; x = 0.01, 0.02, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2 have been fabricated by the simple solution process. Well-defined morphologies and well-crystallinity of these nanoparticles have been verified with the help of field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and energy dispersive XRD techniques. Detailed characterization via these techniques along with UV-visible absorption spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy revealed the incorporation of Mn into the lattices of ZnO. The photocatalytic activity of as-synthesised Mn doped ZnO nanoparticles has been established by performing the degradation of aqueous solution of RhB dye solution of ~ 10 ppm under UV light. Besides photocatalytic activity, Mn doped ZnO nanoparticles have been employed as a fluorescent sensor for H2O2. It is noteworthy that the as proposed sensor is highly specific and sensitive for effective determination of H2O2. Also, from magnetic studies, it has been concluded that there is transformation of ferromagnetic behaviour of Mn doped ZnO samples to paramagnetic behaviour on increasing doping ion concentration.
