Bio-templated assembly of inorganic materials is a promising technique for facile bottom-up assembly of complex and unique nanostructures at ambient conditions. Here, viral-templated nanocrystalline gold nanowires were synthesized for use in highly sensitive H2S sensors that operate at room temperature. The biological template not only acted as a template for specific assembly of gold nanowires, but also played a functional role in enhancing sensor sensitivity of the gold nanocrystalline H2S sensor.
