We will present data demonstrating the use of liquid crystal detection of protein in the development of rapid, label free diagnostics and assays. We control the orientation of liquid crystals by the fabrication of surfaces that present nanoscale features to orient a film of liquid crystals. This orientation is changed in the presence of the target protein. The approach is sensitive and quantitative. We will demonstrate its application to antibody detection and to the detection of other proteins.
