High voltage discharge sensing using corona discharge electromagnetic radiation field is an important means to evaluate the reliability and safety of high voltage equipment during operation. But the traditional corona discharge electromagnetic radiation field testing technology can not determine the discharge region. In this paper, the radiation characteristics of corona discharge are studied, and the correspondence between the spectrum of the discharge electromagnetic radiation field and the curvature of the discharge part is obtained, and the sensing method of the discharge region of high voltage equipment in the corona discharge radiation field is proposed. In this paper, according to the method of engineering electromagnetic field calculation, the computational model of the needle-plate discharge device is established to study the electric field near the needle electrode. The electric field and the initial corona electric field of the needle tip are calculated to obtain the corona discharge and discharge characteristics. The relationship between the radius of curvature of the electrode and the spectrum of the electromagnetic radiation field is obtained by using the corona discharge radiation field testing system. The results show that the spectrum of the discharge radiation is related to the radius of curvature of the electrode. A method is proposed in which the radius of curvature of the discharge site is reflected according to the discharge radiation characteristic and the target region of the high voltage discharge is locked according to the size of the radius of curvature to determine the discharge site. In this paper, the radiation characteristics of corona discharge were studied. It is proved that the spectrum of the corona discharge electromagnetic radiation field has a corresponding relation with the radius of curvature of the discharge electrode, which can provide a new idea for sensing the discharge region of high voltage equipment.
