Emerging from the sensing capabilities of the particle sensors, we have developed a platform technology to produce a family of monodisperse capsule structures ranging from the nano to the micro in their diameters and shell thicknesses. These are exciting because the capsules are multifunctional. They exhibit a real time reversible quantitative fluorescent signal in response to ion fluctuations whilst simultaneously, functioning as delivery vehicles for ultrasound mediated delivery of active compounds such as drugs or antibiotics.
