This presentation will provide a current update on the nanotechnology patent landscape comprising well over 6000 issued U.S. patents covering various aspects of nanotechnology. The characteristics and trends of academic-originated versus federal laboratory-originated versus private business-originated nanotech inventions will be compared and contrasted. In addition to discussing who’s patenting what in the “active” nanotech areas, e.g., carbon nanotubes, nanoparticles, and targeted nanocarriers and therapeutics, we will also discuss several “refreshingly new” nanotechnology inventions of 2007.
