A critical component to the prevention of the sexual transmission of HIV is adherence to the prevention modality. We have conjugated nucleoside-reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) to a biocompatible polymer, PLGA using an amide bond. We have then taken this conjugated product and fabricated NRTI nanoparticles (NPs) as a sustained-release system. Furthermore, we have incorporated the NRTI-conjugated NPs into a thermosensitive gel to deliver the NPs vaginally as a prevention modality. Preliminary data is presented in the abstract.
