Cementitious material contribute to about 5-8% of total world Carbon emission per year. Calcium Silicate Hydrates (C-S-H) is the main product of hydrated Portland cements. A better understanding of its kinetics, growth mechanism and atomic structure will provide us with knowledge in assessing the new alternative material for substitution in cementitious material on more scientific basis rather than trial and error. Real cement system is too complex to perform such kind of studies due to presence of lot of phases. Hence we have adopted synthetic approach to precipitate C-S-H and gain more insight to the kinetics and growth mechanism of C-S-H. Further to its role in cement, synthetic C-S-H has promising applications in fields such as drug delivery and oil spill adsorption owing to its high specific surface area. Also these C-S-H can be loaded with phase change material (PCM), which serves as excellent packaging material for sensitive products.
