Rapid advances in genomic sequencing are changing the focus and pace of structural biology, shifting from a reductionist approach to a broad view of all the pieces that come into play in a cell or organism. Here we describe how structural information can be obtained in an efficient fashion suitable for genomic-scale structural analyses and discuss recent developments in automation of crystallographic software that will help allow high-throughput structure determination become a reality.
