SPRi signal amplification by organothiols-nanopattern

A 2D crystalline nanoarray of organothiols has been used for enhancing the detection sensitivity of Surface Plasmon Resonance-based biosensor. In particular, an IgG/AbIgG immunoreaction has been monitored by Surface Plasmon Resonance imaging on nano-patterned surfaces characterized by nano-spots with carboxylic functions in a non-adhesive matrix of polyethylene oxide and for comparison on surfaces characterized by uniform carboxylic surfaces. For the same concentration of analyte, the signal is improved by a factor of 5 by using the 2D crystalline nanoarrayed surfaces. Those experiments indicated that the increased sensitivity is due to an amplification of the Surface Plasmon Resonance imaging signal by the crystalline arrangement of the biomolecules on the nanoarray.
