Within a national project, called “H-BUS”, CNR TAE Institute is involved in a zero emission city bus development, in which the optimized level of hybridization will be evaluated on the basis of several aspects. The bus selected for the prototype realization is an electric vehicle having an 85 kW rated power of drive motor and a capacity of 44 passengers already tested in EV configuration. Our approach is to realize a pre-commercial HEV able to increase the range (at least 30%) respect to EV, using a small size of fuel cell that works as batteries recharge on board (range extender configuration).
