The paper reports on research conducted by the authors into the power consumption of the microelectronics employed in a variety of practical wireless intelligent sensor applications. It aims to provide results that will inform developers on the power consumption they might expect from microelectronic components in practical deployments. The effectiveness of some techniques available to reduce power consumption is also presented.
