Platinum Nanowire Actuator: Metallic Artificial Muscles

In this paper, we have fabricated platinum nanowires by using carbon nanotube as templates and have shown its applications for nanoactuation using electro-chemical actuation techniques.The strain response of the nanowire is measured and a total strain amplitude of 0.18% is acquired compared to the 0.15% for platinum nanoparticle actuator that was reported. To date, this is the first platinum nanowire actuator.
