In the past several years there has been a tremendous increase in activities in the field of Nanomaterials Technology. This recent increase in activity is a result of improved analytical methods which allow scientists and engineers to custom tailor nanoscale features into products which result in completely new functionalities. These developments will have positive effects on many different areas of application including energy, electronics, information technology, optics, and even Biotechnology. At Degussa Advanced Nanomaterials we focus on Degussa’s core competence of gas-phase synthesis for large-scale production of Nanomaterials, and utilize these materials to develop new nanostructured products for various applications. These materials include simple oxides, mixed-metal oxides, and composite materials which are composed of distinct separate phases in the nanoscale range. All these products are tailor-made for special applications such as UV absorbing transparent coatings, anti-static and IR absorbing transparent coatings, adhesives, or slurries for chemical mechanical planarization. In this paper we present the synthesis techniques of our new nanoscaled products, their physical and physico-chemical properties, and their further processing into systems which are tailored for use in specific applications.
