Consumer nanoproducts are interested in public health aspects. In Korea, wallpaper is a popular construction material of housing. Wallpaper is well known to emit various volatile organic compounds and carbonyl compounds. Some wallpaper is coated with TiO2 nanoparticles for photocatalytic effect. In this work, we investigated nanoaerosol release characteristics of wallpaper coated with TiO2 nanoparticles. Three test specimen (common wallpaper as a control, wallpaper coated with TiO2 nanoparticles by manufacturer, and wallpaper coated with TiO2 nanoparticles by consumer) were used to compare the amount of nanoaerosol release. We also considered degradation effect of wallpaper coated with TiO2 nanoparticles by varying UV exposure time. Nanoaerosol release pattern was observed in an air-jet simulated test chamber. A pulsed air jet was enforced to the test specimen. Nanoaerosols (>10 nm) released from the test specimen were continuously monitored using a condensation particle counter. Release test was carried out both at initial condition not exposed to UV lamp and after ten-hour exposure. The released aerosol amount was wallpaper coated with TiO2 nanoparticles by manufacturer > common wallpaper > wallpaper coated with TiO2 nanoparticles by consumer. After ten-hour exposure, change in the released aerosol amount was negligible.
