Nanostructured patterns have been produced on aluminum surfaces by chemical etching. The density of the nanopatterns increases with the increase of the concentration of the etchent. The patterned aluminum surfaces have been passivated using stearic acid (SA) organic molecules. The passivated surfaces are found to be superhydrophobic exhibiting the lotus effect. The contact angle of water on these surfaces have been found to be as high as 170 with contact angle hysteresis as low as 4 .
