Demand response is the reduction of consumption on an electric grid in response to peak demand, high prices or other system contingencies. Over the past several years, technology advancements have enhanced the capabilities of demand response and have increased the value of the resource for all stakeholders: utilities, grid operators and consumers of electricity. In this paper, we present a framework for understanding the benefits that demand response cutting-edge technology can provide and look at future technology needs.
