Innovative poly(methyl methacrylate) based nanocomposites filled with two kinds of calcium carbonate nanoparticles, coated with stearic acid and poly(butyl acrylate), were prepared.
The influence of the nanoparticles nature and content on the chemical-physical properties of the polymeric matrix was investigated by performing morphological, thermal, mechanical and abrasion resistance analysis. Calcium carbonate nanoparticles induce an extraordinary improvement of the abrasion resistance. Nanoparticles coated with poly(butyl acrylate) induce also significant improvements of the impact and tensile properties.
