Nickel ferrite (NiFe2O4) spinel structure of magnetic material has exhibits wide range of applications. NiFe2O4 exhibits unusual physical and chemical properties when it is prepared in nano size. Solid state reaction method has been widely used for the synthesis of nickel ferrites, but it exhibits disadvantages such as higher operating temperature, in homogeneity, poor stoichiometry, higher crystallite size etc, which affects its magnetic properties. To overcome these above disadvantages, wet chemical routs, such as sol-gel, combustion, polyol etc are investigated for the synthesis of nano crystalline multi component oxide powders. Among them polyol process which is also known as ethylene glycol mediated process is found to be a versatile for the synthesis of metal oxides with controlled morphologies. Hence, in the present work, nano – crystalline spinel NiFe2O4 powders were prepared by ethylene glycol mediated process.
