We will present our newly developed concepts of compact superconducting linear accelerators driven by innovative radio-frequency power drivers with unprecedented frequency and phase control. Such devices could be used to generate 1 MeV to 10 MeV class electron beams with capability to vary the output energy dynamically for production of brehmstrahlung x-rays of varying spectral coverage. Such x-ray sources could be used for rapid scanning of moving cargo for security purposes. In addition the compact electron source could be used directly for various industrial applications of separation of various phases of particulate and liquid discharge for treatment of urban effluence or chemical and biological spills, innovative treatment of surfaces of asphault for transport applications and particle/radiation brushing of fabrics and membranes for anti-bacterial treatment etc. We will describe the development of prototype efforts in relation to a technology reeadiness scale and plans for value-engineering over longer terms. The effort will also include techniues of development of special nano-structured field-emitters of electrons as sources for the radio-frequency accelerators.
