It is known that the softness of fabric is realized when fabrics softener is used after washing, and it is also well known that the water-absorbency of the fabrics is decreased as an unfavorable side-effect. In order to overcome this trade-off relationship, we found it effective to introduce “additional hydrophilic surfaces” onto the surface of cotton fibers using highly hydrophilic small particles. This phenomenon is to be explained by a new wetting theory.
