Magnetoliposomes: Stability of Magnetic Nanoparticles in Suspension for drug delivery

Sen T., Sheppard S.J., Mercer T., Elhissi A., University of Central Lancashire, UK
A simple and rapid one pot method of synthesis of magneto-liposome has been reported. The nanoparticles exhibited exceptional stability in suspension. Magnetoliposomes were efficient for DNA binding/elution and drug loading.

Novel Nanocomposites: Hierarchically Ordered Porous Silica for the Immobilisation of Enzyme as Bio-catalyst

Sen T., Sen Y., Sen T., Sen Y., University of Central Lancashire, UK
A novel nanocomposites has been synthesised and used as a support for immobilisation of lipase for the hydrolysis of ester. The synthesis of nanocomposites has been patented and published in the high impact factor journals [...]

Developing a Strategy for the Spatial Localisation and Autonomous Release of Silver Nanoparticles within Smart Implants

Newton L.A.A., Sharp D.G., Leslie R., Davis J., Nottingham Trent University, UK
A novel approach to the controlled release of silver nanoparticles from a solid state repository within microdevice/micro fluidic architectures is presented. The dynamics of their formation, mechanism and influence on particle formation and release characteristics [...]

Magnetite nanoparticles as moderators of extreme conditions during Bradyrhizobium japanicum growth

Ghalamboran M.R., Ramsden J.J., Cranfield University, UK
The aim of this study was to investigate whether magnetite nanoparticles and pH simultaneously affect Bradyrhizobium growth rate (BGR) in liquid media, with a view to diminishing sensitivity to high pH and, hence, enhancing survival [...]

A Generalised Approach for the Surface Engineering of Nanoparticles in Suspension for Highly Efficient Hybrid Capture of Bio-molecules

Sen T., Bruceb I.J., University of Central Lancashire, UK
A generalised method of surface engineering of nanoparticles in suspension has been reported using a novel strategy “Tri-phasic reverse Emulsion” or TPRE. In this method, the surface functionalisation of nanopaticles can be controlled by controlling [...]

Fuel cell catalysts based on core-shell nanoparticles

Xu H., Zalitis C., Rivera-Hernandez M., Albrecht T., Kucernak A., Imperial College London, UK
In this contribution, we focus on the different approaches to dispersing Pt and Co/Pt core/shell nanoparticles in solution and then depositing them on representative catalyst supports. These include gold or highly ordered pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) [...]

The use of PEO-PPO-PEO block copolymers in the synthesis of nano ZnO via the hydrothermal method

Young M., Bao X., Loughborough University, UK
This investigation studied the effects of different molecular weight of the blocks in the PEO-PPO-PEO block copolymers, the different starting zinc compounds and different hydrothermal parameters on the particle size and morphology of ZnO. The [...]

Ab initio investigation of Graphene Based Systems

Virka N.S., Harrisonb N.M., Montanaric B., Imperial College London, UK
First-principles calculations employing the hybrid exchange functional B3LYP are used to determine the structural parameters, electronic structure and associated properties of a graphene sheet, graphane chair and graphane boat confirmations. Graphane is found to have [...]

Spin Dependent Transport in Carbon Nanostructures

Harrison N.M., Montanari B., Imperial College London, UK
A theoretical investigation of the electronic and magnetic structure in carbon nanoribbons, defective graphene and carbon peapod structures. The critical importance of electron correlation in the emergent behaviour will be demonstrated for; the generation of [...]

Carbon-based nanocomposite EDLC supercapacitors

Lei C., Lekakou C., University of Surrey, UK
Supercapacitors are electric devices with power and energy densities between those of a traditional capacitor and battery. As the demand for energy storage devices with high power and long durability increases, the supercapacitor becomes more [...]
