The research work discussed here will be focused on development of multifunctional nanoscale heterostructured photocatalysts comprised of oxides of copper and cobalt. Two fabrication approaches are described: a) solution and b) dry processing route. The developed approaches allow for the growth of cobalt oxide on the surface of copper oxide nanowires. The former oxies grows on the surface of nanowires in a well-controlled morphology and dispersions. Many fundamental questions, such as morphology dependent photocatalytic behavior, band structure, and crystal structures are understood. The overall study leads to a novel photocatalyst design that can be UV as well as visible light active and can function without a sacrificial agent.
