Engineered response materials for oil and gas

Keywords: , , ,

Engineered response materials- materials that are designed to respond to wellbore conditions to do something, enable significant reductions in drilling and completion costs. Specific responses now available for incorporation into new tools and processes include expansion/shape change, dissolution, energy generation, and pressure or energy release, among others. Terves has developed engineered nanocomposites that provide structural functions while expanding or dissolving under controlled wellbore conditions, enabling the development and use of interventionless tooling. In addition to nanocomposite magnesium degradable alloys, dissolvable elastomeric materials, tailored response coatings, and expandable high strength materials are now being released into the marketplace. Both the properties of available engineered response materials, as well as several leading applications/tools will be discussed.
