In this study, various ratio and sizes of Nd2O3, Yb2O3 and Er2O3 nano-crystalline oxides were doped into polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) host material. PMMA is an amorphous, thermoplastic polymer with an optical transparency region from 300 nm to 2800 nm. Beyond the excellent optical properties, PMMA shows superior resistance to laser, high mechanical strength and ease of synthesis thus, this properties make it suitable for the production of elastic polymer material that emits light. Various ratio of rare earth oxide nano-crystalline powders added into the PMMA polymer matrix were synthesized using the thermal decomposition method. The structural characterization of the composites were made using X-ray diffraction and electron microscope techniques. The spectroscopic measurements such as absorption and emission spectra (up- and down-conversion) were conducted. Crystalline phase of Nd2O3 powders varies with the annealing temperature hence, the luminescence properties are affected. Figure shows the representative image of the effect of the concentration and the crystalline phase of Nd2O3 nanocrystals embedded in PMMA on the emission spectra under 805.2 nm excitation. The effect of the Nd2O3 amount is clearly seen from the Figure. The details will be presented at the conference.
